National Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering (NDTE) Overview

The National Diploma in Telecommunication Engineering (NDTE) is a two-year, full-time technical programme designed to prepare learners for careers in the telecommunication and electronics industry. It focuses on installing, operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting telecommunication systems and networks, aligning with Uganda’s competence-based education framework (CBET).


Programme Duration and Structure

  • Duration: 2 academic years, completed within a maximum of 5 years.
  • Structure: 4 semesters and two industrial training sessions, each lasting 10 weeks.
  • Each semester covers 17 weeks (15 for learning and 2 for examinations).
  • Learners engage in real-life projects each semester to apply theoretical knowledge to practical problems.

The curriculum blends electrical, electronic, and IT principles, including:

  • Electrical and Electronic Engineering Fundamentals
  • Telecommunication Systems and Transmission Lines
  • Computer Networks and Programming
  • Digital and Analog Communication Systems
